The narrow-gauge Považie Forest Railway was used until 1976 to transport timber and forest
workers. Čierny Váh Valley (Dolina Čierneho Váhu) and the adjacent valleys were and still
are criss-crossed by the former routes of this defunct railway. A small part of it is now used
by cyclists, and we invite you to experience this unique ride for yourself. During your cycling
trips, we recommend visiting the museum. It is located in a small wooden house that used to
be a stop on the forest railway. The main exhibition of the remains of the forest railway can
be found nowadays in the Museum of the Liptov Village in Pribylina, where you can see the
locomotives and carriages that used to run along Čierny Váh.
Cycle Route from Kráľová Lehota:

The Upper Čierny Váh Reservoir (Horná nádrž Čierny Váh) can be reached from Kráľová
Lehota along the Liptov Cycle Route (Liptovská cyklomagistrála), turning off in Svarín onto
an unmarked cycle route leading along an asphalt road. This route is approximately 12 km
long. Alternatively, you can choose the 16 km long route along cycle routes Nos. 2432, 8484,
and 5454.
The Lower Čierny Váh Reservoir (Dolná nádrž Čierny Váh) is accessible from Kráľová
Lehota along the Liptov Cycle Route (Liptovská cyklomagistrála). The 12.5 km route has a
gentle incline and takes about an hour. At the Forest Railway Museum, behind the Lower
Reservoir (Dolná nádrž), a green cycle route branches off from the red cycle route and
continues along the embankment of the former Forest Railway towards Benkovo Valley,
where it rejoins the red cycle route. A drinking water fountain is located at the turn-off to the
green cycle route, above the church in the Čierny Váh district.
Route from Tatranská Štrba:
The cycle route from Tatranská Štrba is demanding in terms of length. The only climb is on
the section from Svarín to the Upper Čierny Váh Reservoir (Horná Nádrž Čierny Váh). Most
of the route goes downhill, taking you through the most beautiful parts of the Čierny Váh
area, including the former Považie Forest Railway.

Parking is available at the railway station in Tatranská Štrba and in Kráľova Lehota.
