Have you ever visited the longest valley in Slovakia? Come to Ľubochňa and get to know the
entire Ľubochňa Valley (Ľubochnianska dolina), ideally by bike. It is 25 km long in total, and
you can cycle almost the entire length on a mountain or trekking bike along a forest road.
There is a marked cycle route from Ľubochňa to Salatín, where it branches off from the
valley. However, the valley can only be accessed by bike as far as Močidlo, as the forest
roads beyond are more challenging.
In Krátke, not far from the cottage, you can turn off the road to admire the tiny Studený
Geyser (literally “Cold Geyser”). The water is white and even foams.
In the valley, you will also find the remains of the only tarn in the Fatra Mountains, called
Blatné, which can be reached by turning off at the Horáreň Blatné signpost.
The biggest attraction for visitors to Ľubochňa Valley (Ľubochnianska dolina) is the famous
Vyšný Tajch, an artificial pond, located above the Rakytov area. Keep going and pedal all the
way up – it is the perfect spot for a picnic in nature and a light snack.
The route through Močidlo is 22 km long and takes about 2 hours. The round trip takes about
4 hours.
Ľubochňa Valley (Ľubochnianska dolina) has a lot to offer to tourists. You can follow
the educational trail , along the eastern slope of Ľubochňa Valley (Ľubochnianska dolina),
around the supply canal of the hydroelectric power plant, upstream of the Ľubochnianka
River, up to the village of Lúčka and back to Ľubochňa. Another interesting feature of the
valley is the embankment of the old Forest Railway, which was built here at the beginning of
the 20th century. It was the world's first electrified narrow-gauge forest railway, with its own
power plant and a gauge of 760 mm. It was used to transport timber and the people who
worked in the surrounding forests. The power plant has been preserved to this day. It was
renovated in 1994, and still produces electricity. Inside, you will find illustrated panels that will
guide you through the history of both the power plant and the Forest Railway.
Parking
You can use the parking lot of the National Institute of Endocrinology, situated in the village.
There are also a few small parking lots at the entrance to Ľubochňa Valley (Ľubochnianska
dolina).
