In the picturesque surroundings of the Kysuce Protected Landscape Area, you will find the
Kysuce Village Museum in Vychylovka, which presents a vivid picture of traditional life in the
Kysuce region. This unique open-air museum was created during the construction of the
Nová Bystrica waterworks, which made it necessary to preserve the historic buildings from
the areas flooded by the reservoir.
The museum grounds contain authentic residential houses, farm buildings, technical objects,
and sacred monuments from several Kysuce villages. Every building was carefully
dismantled, moved, and reconstructed so that it could continue to tell the stories of life in
Kysuce.
In the traditional pub directly on the museum grounds, you can enjoy authentic Kysuce
specialities prepared according to old recipes. The perfect atmosphere is created by staff in
traditional folk costumes and an authentic setting that will transport you a century back in
time.
An interesting fact

Dream (Jaškov sen), Living Water (Živá voda), Like Wild Geese (Ako divé husi) and The

air museum. Juraj Jakubisko’s fairy tale series The Aunt (Teta), known in its edited cinema
version as Freckled Max and Ghosts (Pehavý Max a strašidlá), was also filmed here, as was
the fairy tale film The Little Sailor and Vratko (Plavčík a Vratko).
