Not far from the town of Martin, above the villages of Trebostovo and Turčiansky Peter, there
is a former tank testing track, where you can find two wooden observation towers
approximately 2 km apart, the lookout tower on Tank Road (Tanková cesta) and the lookout
tower below Bokšín. The route begins at the Slovak National Uprising memorial in Bukoviny,
Martin – Stráne and ends in the village of Trnovo. In Turiec, structurally simple lookout towers
were built along cycle paths to make cycling more interesting. The lookout tower on Tank
Road (Tanková cesta) boasts magnificent views of the city of Martin, the Veľká Fatra
Mountains, including the peaks of Lysec, Borišov, Ploská, Tlstá, Ostrá and Drienok, and the
Malá Fatra Mountains. These two lookout towers are part of a cycle path that will take you by
five lookout towers in Turiec. It is approximately 50 km long, so it is possible to complete the
trip in one day. In addition to the city of Martin itself, there are several other attractions in the
area. The Museum of the Slovak Village is the largest natural exhibition in Slovakia,
comprising 145 buildings from the Žilina region. Valča Valley is home to a well-known ski
resort, which offers a wide range of sporting activities even in summer.
