Orava is home to the highest lookout tower in Slovakia. It is located on Skorušina Hill (1,314
metres above sea level), which is part of the Skorušina Mountains, situated to the north of
the Western Tatras. The 14 m high steel structure can be reached from Trstená, Brezovica,
and Vitanová (part of Oravice). The shortest route leads from Oravice, but if you start your
hike from Brezovica (approx. 7 km), after approximately an hour you will come across a small
older metal lookout tower called Ostrý vrch (literally “Sharp Hill”), which offers a beautiful
view of the Orava Reservoir. After another 2 hours, you will reach your destination, the
Skorušina lookout tower. The tower offers unique views of the Roháče ridge (hrebeň
Roháčov), Veľký Rozsutec, Oravská Magura, the Orava Beskids, Babia hora, the Orava
Reservoir, and the Orava Basin. If you go back towards Oravice, you can relax in the local
geothermal healing waters.
