Directly above the village of Terchová lies an attractive gorge that rivals the most popular
tourist routes in the region.
Obšívanka Valley, together with the Bandit’s Trail running through the gorges, is considered
to be one of the most beautiful in the Malá Fatra National Park. Initially resembling Jánošík's
Holes (Jánošíkove diery), the valley gradually reveals beautiful vistas and numerous rock
terraces and formations. The valley is also interesting for its significant climatic inversion and
the lowest natural occurrence of dwarf pine.
The route is challenging, featuring a steep ascent right from the start. The narrow path leads
through rocky terrain, with steps and chains attached to the rock in many sections. There is
also an exposed section that runs for several metres along a high rock ledge. However, the
entire route offers beautiful views of the Malá Fatra Mountains ridge and the gorges appear
completely different from above.
If you are not afraid of heights and enjoy technically challenging hiking, this is definitely the
place for you. Please note that the route is not suitable for small children and dogs.
How to get there?
The blue-marked hiking trail starts at the Tiesňavy trail signpost and continues to Malé
Nocľahy, passing through relatively difficult rocky terrain, which is secured in several places
with footholds and chains. From Malé Nocľahy, the blue trail continues to Obšívanka Valley.
It descends into the valley through forest terrain, with steps and safety chains in several
places. From Obšívanka, the blue trail continues to the settlement of Podolina and ends on
the main road in Vyšné Kamence.
If you want to descend to Terchová, take the green trail from the valley. On Oravcová Hill,
you can enrich your journey with a visit to the Stations of the Cross of Terchová. The
Stations of the Cross are unique in that, unlike others, you will not find chapels there, but
crosses and statues placed on the ground.
Parking
A small parking lot is located next to the main road, opposite the starting point at Tiesňavy.
Seasonal closure
The section from Malé Nocľahy to Obšívanka is closed from 1 March to 15 June.
