Jánošík’s Holes

Upper Povazie

With its system of canyons and gorges, 20 gorgeous waterfalls, bizarre rock formations and
footpaths featuring footbridges, ladders and chains, it is no surprise that this is one of the
most beautiful hiking trails in the Malá Fatra National Park and one of the most stunning trips
to take in Slovakia. Jánošík’s Holes are located in the Rozsutec National Nature Reserve
and consist of three distinct sections: the Lower Holes (Dolné Diery), the New Holes (Nové
Diery) and the Upper Holes (Horné Diery).
How to get there?
The ideal starting point is the Biely Potok area of Terchová.
The short circuit through Jánošík’s Holes, which runs through the New Holes and the
Lower Holes, is suitable for seniors and small children thanks to the small elevation gain. It
can be completed in 2 hours.

If you want to enjoy the most spectacular places, you need to take the long circuit of
Jánošík’s Holes, which runs through the New Holes, the Upper Holes and the Lower Holes.
Tip!
If you are a skilled hiker, combine the trail through the Holes with an ascent to the Malý
Rozsutec Mountain. This hiking trail is popular due to its magnificent vistas from the top of
the mountain.
Parking
Paid parking is available at the starting point, but be aware that later in the day it may already
be full.
