Strážov is the highest of the Strážov Mountains, boasting an altitude of 1,213 metres. The
climb is not very difficult as the trail leads through meadows and forest paths. In winter,
however, the icy trails can be challenging even for experienced hikers.
Thanks to its grassy, treeless summit, you can enjoy beautiful views stretching far into the
distance as it clearly dominates the surrounding hills. Just below the summit stands the
famous wooden double cross, an ideal spot for a photo with the hills in the background.
You should definitely combine your hike with a visit to Čičmany, a village with painted
houses, and admire this wonderful reserve of folk architecture, for example Raden's House
(Radenov dom).
How to get there?
There are several trails that lead to the summit – from Čičmany, Zliechov, and Pružina. The
trails from Čičmany and Zliechov are sections of the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising
Route. The red hiking trail will lead you from both villages to the summit.
The trail from the fairytale village of Čičmany initially follows the main road, but after about
1.5 km it turns off onto meadow and forest paths. They lead up to Sedlo pod Strážovom,
where the route connects with the green trail from the village of Pružina. It takes less than an
hour to climb to the summit from there via Lúka pod Strážovom.
Parking
There is a larger parking lot at the ski lift in the village of Čičmany. At the start of the trail,
there is a small parking area for several cars next to the main road.
