Poludnica (1,549 m above sea level) offers tourists a real experience thanks to its excellent
location, which provides breathtaking views of almost the entire Liptov region and, in
particular, the Liptovská Mara Reservoir. The rock outcrop near the summit is a popular spot
for photographers. Make sure you take a photo of yourself with the Tatra peak Kriváň in the
background!
How to get there?
The hike begins above the hotel in Liptovský Ján with a steep climb up the ski slope, after
which it gradually continues to Rakytovica Saddle, followed again by another climb to Predná
Poludnica (literally “Front Poludnica”), where the trail joins the ridge and continues to
Poludnica. On the climb to Predná Poludnica, you will pass the Kamenné mlieko cave
(literally “Stone Milk cave”), where Jews hid during the war and were helped to survive by the
local inhabitants. A memorial plaque at the entrance to the cave commemorates this piece of
history.
If you do not want to descend back along the same route, follow the blue trail from Poludnica
towards Kúpeľ and from there the green trail to Rakytovica Saddle and Liptovský Ján. This
trail is longer than the way up and you need to be careful not to miss the turn to Rakytovica
at Kúpeľ.
Parking
There is a parking lot at the trailhead by the hotel and another in front of the thermal pool in
Jánska Valley.
