Baníkov Peak and Tri kopy are located on the main ridge of the Roháče Mountains, offering magnificent and sweeping views. The red ridge hiking trail leading from Sivý vrch to Pyšné Saddle (Pyšné sedlo) passes through them. Tri kopy (literally “Three Heaps”) form three separate summits a few minutes apart, Baníkov is the highest peak of the Western Tatra ridge. Between them lies another fairly prominent peak with a rocky appearance, Hrubá kopa (literally ‘Rough Heap’). The hike is quite popular, but it is one of the most difficult in the Roháče Mountains, similar to other ridge hikes. It has many exposed sections secured with chains and conquering them requires experience with high-altitude hiking in difficult terrain. The hike is recommended only in good weather, as poor weather conditions significantly increase the challenge of an already demanding trail.
In addition to the popular Orava trail from Zuberec, this part of the ridge can also be easily reached via the 18.5 km long Liptov trail from Žiar Valley (Žiarska dolina).
