The unmistakable limestone pyramid of Veľký Choč is easily identifiable not only from the entire Liptov region, but also from the Veľká and Malá Fatra Mountains, Low and Western Tatras and Orava. It is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in Slovakia, from which it is possible to admire panoramic views in all directions. The hike to Veľký Choč is very popular and it is also available during the winter season. Veľký Choč is also interesting for hikers because there are several marked trails from different starting points. Hikes are possible from Vyšný Kubín, Jasenová, Valaská Dubová, but also from Likavka, Lisková or Lúčky.
The shortest and least demanding route is the blue and green trail from Valaská Dubová. The climb, which is about 4.5 km long, will take you 3.5 hours.
From Jasenová, the red-marked Martin Kukučín trail will take you to the top in just over 4 hours.
If you choose to climb from Likavka, the red hiking trail will lead you via Likava Castle, Spuštiak Saddle and Stredná Poľana to Veľký Choč. From Veľký Choč, continue to Žimerová all the way to the village of Lúčky. The route is 18 km long and can be completed in about 7 hours.
