With an altitude of 1,236 m, Veľká Rača is the highest peak of the Kysuce region. It is part of the Kusyce Beskids and is easily accessible via several marked hiking trails from the Slovak and Polish sides. If you are ascending Veľká Rača from Oščadnica, you can shorten your route by taking the ski resort cable car to the summit of Dedovka, where you should definitely stop at the lookout tower, which offers stunning views of Kysuce, Moravia, and Poland. If you decide to hike to the summit of Dedovka, be sure to visit the Chapel of the Virgin Mary in the settlement of Zadedová, surrounded by wooden carved statues, as well as the Chapel of St. Thaddeus near the upper cable car station. From the upper cable car station, it is only about one hour’s walk along the ridge to Veľká Rača. Rocky crevices along the route and the small summit viewpoint of Veľká Rača make this final section of the ascent more interesting. On clear days, the viewpoint offers views of Babia Hora, the Roháče Mountains, and the Low Tatras.
