Lysec

Turiec

With an altitude of 1,381 m above sea level, Lysec is one of the relatively well accessible peaks in the Veľká Fatra. This circular hike, accessible all year round, has much to offer in every season. The reward for the climb is the view of the Western and Low Tatras, the Veľká
Fatra ridge, as well as the Kriváň and Lúka sections of the Malá Fatra. A panoramic orientation board makes it easier to identify the peaks on the horizon.

How to get there?
From the parking lot in Jasenská Valley (Jasenská dolina) – Kašová, the blue hiking trail leads to the former Lysec Cottage. There is another parking lot there, where you can park your car. From there, the blue trail continues for about 400 m along a wide asphalt road, then turns right into the forest and follows a really challenging three-kilometre climb along a forest road that offers no views until you reach the summit. You will enjoy a few views of Grúň and its surroundings after approximately an hour of climbing. After about another half hour of climbing, you will reach the summit of Lysec. Over a 3 km stretch, you will climb nearly 800 metres, which makes this route one of the most challenging. You can go back to the valley by descending along the ridge to Poľka Saddle on the yellow hiking trail and then along forest paths and meadows to Medzijarky Saddle, from where the green hiking trail will lead you to the parking lot in Kašová. If you want to go from Medzijarky to the bus stop, continue along the yellow trail.
The circular route is also passable in the opposite direction and the ascent via Medzijarky and Poľka may be slightly easier, as there are alternating flat sections and climbs, but even in this case, you will gain over 800 metres in elevation, spread across nearly 6 km.
