The oldest via ferrata in Slovakia was built in 2013-2014. The via ferrata trail is largely secured with footholds, ladders, and steel cables, and at a certain point it splits into two branches of varying difficulty. However, both paths meet at an altitude of approximately 1,200 m above sea level, and the via ferrata trail continues for about 10 minutes before connecting to the blue trail leading to the cottages at Martinské hole. The via ferrata is one-way, ascending from bottom to top. Via ferrata equipment is mandatory and can be rented at the trailhead in Stráne, Martin. It is open all year round, with the exception of two closures, namely in the period 15 April – 31 May and 15 September – 31 October. The descent from Martinské hole is possible following the yellow trail, which starts at Stráne, or by using scooters on the same route.
How to get there?
The red hiking trail leads from Martin Stráne bus stop, terminus, along Pivovarský potok (literally “Brewery Stream”), towards Martinské hole. At the bottom there is an educational trail with information boards and resting places that will lead you to the via ferrata itself.
An interesting fact
There are two rope bridges on the route over the stream. Thanks to them, you can cross the gorge both ways and experience a unique adrenaline-filled adventure.
Where to rent via ferrata sets and scooters?
Via ferrata sets can be rented at the rental shop in the parking lot. You will find an off-road scooter rental shop in Martinské hole near an apartment building. You can return the scooters to the rental shop in the parking lot.
Parking
There is a parking lot at the Martin Stráne bus stop, terminus.
